Buddhist Lent ends Wednesday Oct 12
Buddhist lent or full moon day of the year 2011
Wednesday, October 12 will be the end of this year’s Buddhist Lent, Thais call Wan Auk Pansaa, celebrated on the full moon night of the eleventh month of the year. This event is marked the “official” end of the rainy season, even though the weather might not necessarily cooperate.
Many of lay people will be gathering at their local temples for paying their respects, make merit, do the Tak Bat Dhevo ceremony and place steamed rice wrapped in coconut palm leafs, called “kao tom hang”, and any other food into monks’ alms bowls. Other religious ceremonies will be also taken place at local temples of them.
People in hte North of Thailand, Lanna, will have very unige event before that day. It means in the early morning after midnight of October 11, 2011 Monks and Novices will go to arm too.
This festival is transfered form myanmar so that people in Lanna only still deal with this fatival untill nowadays.
